About The People We Know 3, By Vishesh Oberoi
Welcome Ladies And Gentlemen, Namaste And Salaam. Welcome back to About The People We Know.
The Special Person we are going to talk about today is
The Often Called Elvis Presley Of India
Sonu Nigam
He was born in Faridabad. His family moved to Delhi when he was still young. He attended J.D. Tytler School. His father Agam Kumar is a singer too. He has two younger sisters. He started singing at the age of four-and-a-half years singing a Mohammad Rafi number at a concert where his father was due to perform. He was discovered and promoted by Gulshan Kumar of T-Series, who gave him his first major recording opportunities. He moved from Delhi to Mumbai to seriously pursue his singing career, at the age of 19.He got his big break as a playback singer in Gulshan Kumar's film Aaja Meri Jaan and then "Accha Sila Diya Tune" (also sung in Gujarati) from Bewafa Sanam (1996). At this time, he also started hosting Sa Re Ga Ma, a television singing talent competition that became one of the most popular shows on Indian television. Thereafter, the offers poured in, albeit slowly at first. He shot to fame with the song "Sandese Aate Hai" from Border (1997). In the initial stages, he was type-cast as a Rafi-sound-alike. The image was transformed after his brilliant rendition of "Yeh Dil, Deewana" in the film Pardes (1997). Since then, he has created a unique trademark style of his own.
Over the years, Sonu Nigam has become a major force in the music industry. He has released a number of pop albums including Mausam, Sapnay Ki Baat, Kismat, Deewana, Jaan, Yaad, Chanda Ki Doli and Colours of Love, as well as a Punjabi album 'Pyar'. Besides SaReGaMa, he has also hosted Kisme Kitna Hai Dum and been a judge on Indian Idol. Sonu has also acted in a couple of films as well, namely Jaani Dushmaan alongside Sunny Deol, Manisha Koirala and Akshay Kumar as well as other actors, Kash Aap Hamare Hote where he plays the lead opposite Juhi Babbar daughter of Raj Babbar who too is in this movie and lastly Love in Nepal with Flora Saini and Sweta Keswani, where he plays the lead again but opposite Flora. However it is to be said that all three films have done terribly at the box-office. Recently though, he started hosting his own radio programme called Life Ki Dhun With Sonu Nigam on Radiocity 91 FM, where he has had the opportunity of interviewing industry greats, including the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. This radio show is available on the net. He is due to release a semi-classical album as well as an English album in the near future.

About The People We Know 2, By Vishesh Oberoi
Welcome Ladies And Gentle Men, Namaste And Salaam. Sorry, was busy with a lot of stuff so couldnt blog much. So here we are back again with About the people we know.
Today's Special Person Who We Are Going To Talk About is
Gunjan Singh
USA based Gunjan Singh, Or As i Like To Call Her Gunjan Didi, was born and brought up in Delhi, India. She was destined to become a Singer. Her name given to her at birth already had a musical note to it, which means ‘Musical Echo’. At the age of 3, her nursery teachers and others who heard her singing all the time, told her mother that Gunjan would be a famous singer one day.
Her mother, who also had interest and experience in singing was a great influence and encouraged Gunjan to take classical training by the very best.
At the age of four, she made her debut performance for her Kindergarten School. From then on her popularity grew and she began singing on Radio/TV. Music producers became interested in her talent, she went on to record Children’s Nursery Rhymes, Religious Songs, and Commercials.
As her popularity grew so did her collection of awards. The ‘All India (National) Award’ for best Vocalist, was given to Gunjan for three consecutive years. Gunjan has shared the stage with some of the big names in the Indian Music Industry such as Lakshmikant Pyarelal, Ravindra Jain, Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam and Subha Mudgal. Gunjan can not only sing in all Asian but in foreign Languages as well.
After marriage she settled in USA, and continued her Indian Classical Music Training. She finally settled in North Carolina where she continued her pursuit for musical perfection. She did her Graduation in “Western Classical Music with Special Interest in Indian Classical”. Gunjan gave performances on stage all over USA for Indian based events. But her career was not heading in the direction she wanted it to. Gunjan knew she had talent and she just needed a break. That break was to come with a demo she sent to Ishq Records owned by the International Recording artist Bally Sagoo.
Gunjan was immediately flown to the UK for an audition to vocalise for an album which Bally Sagoo was working on called ‘Bollywood Flashback 2’. What was, a simple audition turned out to be a major turn in the right direction in her musical career. Her talent was obvious and she was immediately offered a recording deal. Gunjan went on to sing half the album, which went Platinum within 6 weeks and Triple Platinum within 12 months. She immediately became a hit not only with the younger but the older generation as well, who were in awe of her captivating vocals.
Gunjan's voice has been compared to the legendary singers of the Indian Film Industry. Not only does this girl have velvet vocals that take your breath away, she has the looks and brains to match.
With her debut album now ready to hit the streets, Gunjan prepares for a long and successful future in the music industry.
She is a very good singer and she has the looks and brains to match says Vishesh Oberoi
